Good Lan, but...

posted 22 Apr 2014, 16:49 by Humaine ...   [ updated 6 Oct 2016, 13:06 ]

As per always, we had some problems when we started... Not many had the games installed or up-to-date. (The latter being me... lol)

Anyway was good to have a larger group with Boyboy and Unkouth joining us for this Lan.

SO... Next time... Next Lan....
Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 - Always works, and works well with the 16 player/99 AI mod we have installed.  Might look at removing some of the Nerfed guns but.
Multi Theft Auto:SA - Was bloody funny, but will need to looking into other play modes. Might look at adding MTA:SA to our game server alongside DayZ as well :)
Diablo 3 - Sprint to the end... play it hardcore.... owch...
Warthunder - Maybe we might get to play this at sometime... lol
PlanetSide - We played, but got bored fast when you couldn't really achieve anything, unless you've been playing for many hours. Or you actually pay for it...
Strategy Game - We were missing one of these games... we need to sort one out for next lan.
Games Not Played - Path to Exile (Diablo did that), Warface (not up to date on the day), BattlefieldP4F (errors when multi login), Counterstrike (only 2 had it)....

The main problem was that most of these Play4Free games need to be downloaded and were massive... I think, in order to install most of these games (I had reinstalled my pc) I downloaded close to 50 to 60 gigs. For some of our members thats a lot of their datacap.

Oh well, we'll have to organise definite games for next time.

BTW... When we go for lunch/dinner runs, only 2 people in my car now... you Farkers can give shite to someone else's car... Ha!

Alrighty, we have the hall and library area for next weekend. So we're starting on Friday 18th April in the Morning at 8 am.

We're looking at being there from Friday till Sunday Evening. Hopefully you guys are keen for this, cos I am.

Also we are lucky enough to have access to the fiber here at HHS, but to be on the safe side. Please don't rely on getting all your games installed at HHS. And yes it is capped.

Games to Install:
Free to Play Games -
                            PlanetSide 2
                            Path to Exile
                            War Thunder
Battlefield Play4Free (I really want to play this!!! I miss battlefield)

Pay to Play Games -
                            CounterStrike: Global Offensive
                            DOTA 2
                            Arma 2 - DayZ (Epoch)
                            DayZ Standalone
                            Diablo 3
                            Battlefield 3

As always, please follow the instructions detailed in our Tweak Lan Guide

And also please install and hash with DLan 1.1.0 Beta 15. Some of the problems we been having is that not everyone is using the same version. Everyone needs to uninstall, delete from folders/registry and install the latest.

Inquires txt me at 021 two3four031six

Addition: Other Free to Play games we could have a look at:
            Black Mesa
            Battlestar Galactica Online
            Autoclub Revolution
            Quake Live
            Moonbase Alpha - Nasa Game

I'll install and have a look at them during the week...
Yea .... Nope... these suck...

Hey All

I've made a welcome return to Diablo 3 after the release of patch 2.0.  Its fair to say that Blizzard have significantly improved the game with recent updates.

I'm really interested to play the new expansion, which i'm hoping makes up for the lackluster plot in vanilla D3.

One thing which i'm really liking now is the new loot system, which has meant I have finally found some decent loot for my toon.  The crafting system actually provides gear that you consider using as opposed to consistently worthless crap.

Finally, for those of you looking for a FTP MMO that is a bit different check out WAR THUNDER:

(Also available via Steam)

This is basically a WW1 and WW2 MMO where you can fly allied or axis planes and blow stuff up.  You can choose to play in arcade mode which is really fun, or go for the more technically challenging simulator style.

As the marketing spam says:

"War Thunder is a next generation MMO combat game dedicated to World War II military aviation, armored vehicles, and fleets. You will take part in all of the major combat battles, fighting with real players all over the world."

All I can say is that its fun to blow shite up. Try to avoid flying into the ground (over enthusiastic strafing) or other planes (playing chicken while dog fighting)....that's harder than it sounds. :)

I'm looking at having a LAN at Hora Hora on the 18, 19th and 20th of April. (Good Friday to Easter Sunday)

That gives everyone time to sort out whether they will be there.

Not sure what we're playing... I've wiped my games drive so will need to reinstall it all.

Positive note... we have fiber at HHS :)

Dayz Standalone.... Kinda Out

posted 19 Dec 2013, 11:41 by Humaine ...   [ updated 6 Oct 2016, 13:04 ]

I've got it already (its on steam) and have been playing for a few days. I would say that it is still in Alpha and it has LOTS of problems...

But its very cool. But I may have to invest in a way better video card now... I've had my one for at least 3 years now... and it always sucked.

Might pick one up on the way back from Kawhia this holidays. :)

I'm off for 3 weeks.... oh heaven... looking forward to having no tech with me :) and here I come....

Kiss of Death

Oh Nooo Big Matt you've just ruined the perfect game :)

Pre-ordering games just incentives lazy programming. "No beta testing for that product, we have Matt's money" thats what those developers will be saying!!!.

The last game I pre-ordered before release was Hellgate London...epic fail.

PS I'm keen on that warframe game too.  That is if I can ever stop playing Shadowrun.

PPS when is the next LANl.

Unfortunately that is the way of most games it seems, these days...

Anyway.... don't care... game looks awesome... want the game!... LOL

And .... I'm not back till the 11th of next month. So not sure about a Lan.

Battlefield 4 and Others

posted 5 Nov 2013, 11:18 by Humaine ...   [ updated 6 Oct 2016, 14:17 ]

I've just bought Battlefield 4 and only got it yesterday :)

Haven't had a proper game just yet (My BF4 Profile) but looking forward to having a game tonight.

In other news.....

If you haven't seen it yet, there looks to be a few games coming out that look very cool...

The Division - Sounds a bit... Dayz but looks like a very cool addition to the Tom Clancy games. The site only mentions PS and Xbox, but after some complaining from PC gamers... it will be coming out on PC too :) The HUD looks awesome.

(ok, I never pre-ordered anything... but have now... I NEED THIS GAME!)

The Crew -  A car racing game that takes place in an open multi-player world... supposedly set in the whole of america. That's right you'll be able to drive from one side to the other side of america, at a smaller scale. But still sounds great.

Looking forward to these games :)

Warframe... Warface... Anyone?

Haven't had a go at it yet but it looks cool.

Fun LAN but I think we can be more organised

posted 9 Oct 2013, 22:26 by Unknown user   [ updated 6 Oct 2016, 13:06 by Humaine ... ]

Returning to the conversation at the LAN

I vote we need to maintain a list of Tweak approved -Free 2 play games.  This is based on the expectation that everyone has installed the games  prior to the LAN.

Some people don't have big data caps and struggle to get the games in time for the LAN.

Back in the day there were some core games which everyone seemed to play, and most players had 3/4 games ready to go pretty much straight away.

I don't see why we can't be that organised now.  Its just a matter of downloading one game a month, which is doable on most plans.

I've come up with a few suggestions.  However. there's lots of good stuff out there steam etc.

Games to Play @ Lan 45

Games we'll be playing at the LAN

It would be great if people can set up accounts and download, patch before hand!!!

Path of Exile
KIWI BUILT AND DESIGNED GAME.  Diablo Clone but better than D3 in my opinion.  Free to play and only ethical micro-transactions.  Bottom hack and slash, and costs very little.  No money in game, its all about trading for items you need.  Huge customization and character build options.  Pretty much everything D3 is not.   I put in about 25 US over a year ago and haven't spend that yet.  In reality, I don't see why you would ever need to spend much money on this game.  I've played 30-40 hours plus and still liking it. (4Gb)

I should mention that this is an ARPG, but also a survival game.  You start as a shipwrecked exile on a beach with Lots of zombies.... No gold, only items are ones you find or trade for or are given for completing a quest.

PS New players should be aware that Wisdom scrolls (ID scrolls in D2) are basically currency.  Don't waste them identifying every item you get.

PlanetSide 2
Massive online shooter.Free to play.Based on Battlefield 2 design concept, only there's an entire world to battle over MMO style.  Futuristic with tanks, planes etc.Fun game.  Needs a lot of time to build a character if not spending $.  However, perfect for a group LAN battle. (9 Gb?)

If you're having a look at the game, start a character from the Blue team.

Steam Games:

Defence of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2)
For those who don't know the game its basically a meld of Warcraft 3 (you control the hero only) crossed with Counter Strike.  Two Bot armies fight across a map, and you control a Hero to tip the balance. Clone of DOTA, LOL, HON to any who have played this game style.  PVP, but also co-operative against bots.  At first glance a limited game, but the devil is in the detail and the fun of smiting ones enemies. Kill enemies, get $$ and buy shinnies to kill even more enemies!!!

Counter Strike: Global Offensive
Whats not to like about CS.  It works on everyone's pc, has bots, and 1pt kills with flash grenades.  Besides GO brings new maps, easy to mod via steam workshop, a couple of new play styles and HD maps.  This game costs, but even at its worst its only $15 bucks, Ive seen it bought as cheap as $7.

Edit: and maybe some Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3...and possibly some dayz epidemic...... lol
